Nothing is more sad than the death of an illusion
—Quote by Arthur Koestler (Hungarian born British author and journalist—best known for his cult anti-Communist novel ‘Darkness at Noon’ (1940) based on the infamous Moscow treason trials—written originally in German. Koestler joined the Communist Party of Germany in 1931 but after communism disillusioned him he resigned in 1938 and subsequently published ‘Darkness at Noon’ which gave him international recognition).

It was My park of paradise. No—it was not a mourning forest. It was the paradise I knew. It was My park of paradise. Which counted My tears. Witnessed My smile. Gave moments of hope. Shielded My despair. It was My park of paradise. The Gordon Park. Where I could lie in idleness. In the grass. Where I could sit on the bench beneath the bowing shade. And talk to Myself. Or with Someone. Alone. It was My park of paradise. The Gordon Park. Until one day. Until one very bright Sunny day. Until that Sunniest day I have ever seen. When the shade sighed and the bench mourned. They whispered in silence: Look!. . . You are late! and late forever!
